Entry is free and no booking is needed. Free guided walks leave from the Visitor Information Centre at 11am and 1pm daily except public holidays; customised group walks must be booked six weeks in advance on 07 3403 8888. Council notes: "Domesticated animals, including native species, are not permitted at any time (except for guide and assistance dogs)." There are no public barbecue facilities onsite and bringing your own barbecue is not permitted.

The story

"Spanning 56 hectares, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha are Queensland's premier subtropical botanic gardens. They're one of the main attractions in the Mt Coot-tha precinct. With free entry and many facilities, wildlife and plant species, there's always something to see and do at the gardens." The gardens turn 50 in 2026 — Council is collecting visitor stories and photographs for a Then & Now exhibition, with submissions closing Monday 21 September 2026. The Tropical Dome opened on 15 December 1977.

    "Explore the gardens and learn about the plants and features on a free guided walk. Walks leave daily from the Visitor Information Centre at 11am and 1pm seven days a week, except public holidays. They're taken at a gentle pace and last about one hour." Groups of 10 or more, or groups with a special interest, can book a customised tour six weeks in advance on 07 3403 8888.

    A self-guided children's trail through the gardens; Council publishes a downloadable map alongside the other garden trails.

    Published site hire fees for the gardens: "$277.90 for a full day (8am–5pm), $194.45 for a half day (8am–12 noon or 1–5pm), $223.15 (each day) for multiple days (8am–5pm)."

"Free parking is available in the car park at the main entry. You can also park at: Ada Street car park, across the road from the main entry; Anzac Park surrounds in Toowong. Use the Canon Garland Overpass to reach the gardens. Wheelchair accessible parking is available."

The closest bus stops are: Stop 19, at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha; Stop 17, on Mt Coot-tha Road." The closest bike-friendly public transport connections are Toowong Station and Regatta Ferry Terminal.
