The story

The Showgrounds describes itself as "a world-class events and lifestyle precinct located just 1.5km from the city's CBD", built around "the state-of-the-art Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC), a four and a half star Rydges Hotel and vibrant King Street dining and retail hub". It claims "the largest and most versatile range of indoor and outdoor venues in Queensland", handling anything "for 20 or an event for 25,000", and hosts more than 250 events a year drawing about a million people. The precinct is run by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland, which stages the Royal Queensland Show — the Ekka — each August.
