The story
The Wheel opened at South Bank in August 2008 and stayed: it is a permanent installation rather than a travelling ride. It stands 60 metres high with 42 fully enclosed, air-conditioned gondolas, each seating up to six adults and two children, and each fitted with an audio guide — available in English and Mandarin — that talks through the city's landmarks as you rise. A circuit runs 10 to 15 minutes across roughly four rotations, with a pause at the top.
